To stay, to go or to renovate?

To renovate or not to renovate – that is the question. Yesterday my husband and I looked at an empty shell of a house located on the street behind us. I wanted to know whether it made sense to build a second floor on our own place, or if we should sell and buy something else.

(All of the pictures were taken from Google – it’s not the house we looked at.)

It turns out that it makes no sense for us to build a second level. Our house wouldn’t raise enough in value to justify the costs.

The house on the street behind us is an empty shell, meaning they built the house, put in the plumbing, and electricity – and left it to rot. The bad thing is that the layout isn’t exactly as we would like – the good thing is we would get to pick all of the finishings that we would like (within our budget).

But is a new house always better? It would mean losing out on all of the fun and quirky things that make my home the place I love so much. On the other hand, the opportunity to pick everything for a new place – I had such a great time choosing everything for our home now. I’d love to be able to do it again…

Isn’t that the most amazing floor?
