Store Review: Hasadna – Is it really Junk?

by Shelly Sharron on September 11, 2009

I got so inspired by these incredible designs made by the creative people of Hasadna. Hasadna, meaning “the workshop” in Hebrew is a fantastic shop you will find in the flea market in Jaffa. They take junk and make it into designer furniture and decor. Simple things that most of us throw out like plastic bags, yellow pages, old maps and even ice-cream spoons. These are the people who help keep that kind stuff out of landfills by transforming into treasure and I am filled with inspiration and awe at their creations.

Did you ever think that you can make a chandelier out of plastic spoons? Well, the crafty people of Hasadna did and they even made some:

This table top is made of glass, so basically you can use anything  underneath. But I really like this map they used. Some of the creative creations aren’t on the website, so I really suggest visiting the store itself. There is a party for Rosh Hashana and for the opening of the store this Tuesday the 15/09/09. Maybe I’ll see you there.

I loved this cork notice board. They use all sorts of different frames that they happen to find, so no two are alike.

And then there’s this bowl made from yellow pages! I never would have imagined using yellow pages to make a fruit bowl! This is what makes their stuff so great. It’s so unexpected.

They also have great magnets and t-shirts that they print with all sorts of positive messages and a parking fairy, which they are most famous for. In Tel Aviv you need a fairy to help you park, because otherwise the chances of finding parking are pretty minimal.

Wow, that’s amazing, love it!!!

Their site says they have a party with a DJ to celebrate the opening of the store and the New Year this Tuesday 15/9 from 7:00-11:00 pm, maybe add that to the post?

Shabbat Shalom!
