Kastiel - even more than we’ve shown before

I have a friend from London who was convinced that there were no decent furniture stores in all of Israel, so I sent him to Kastiel in south Tel Aviv. The store is ginormous (yes, I made that word up), grand, and the furniture ranges from so over the top even Edina from Absolutely Fabulous would find it a bit much to french country that is so lovely and charming you’re wondering how you can lie to your husband about how much it costs and get away with it (not that I’d ever do such a thing…)

I would put this in the ‘over-the-top’ category, but that’s just me.

This, on the other hand, is screaming my name. Love the table, the dainty metal chairs, and even the rattan. The whole mix together is very sweet.

I also really loved these chairs. They just screamed ’sit in me by a nice fire with some hot chocolate.’

Loving the velvet. Not the most practical of fabrics but, if you can afford Kastiel, practical won’t be your number one priority. Did I mention the place is a bit pricey?

These poofs were the only pieces which didn’t scream original to me. I think I’ve seen them at Tolman’s as well… but don’t quote me on that. (If it wasn’t these exact, then something quite similar.)

Ok, now look at the top of the table - see the pattern? (If not then double click on the picture so you can see it separately in a new window much larger). That is insanely cool (it’s a cement table and I haven’t a clue how the pattern got on there). What I hate are the chairs. I know red and fuschia are the new hot color combo. I just don’t think they match - and I don’t like how they clash. Ikea did it in a kitchen in their catalog. I’ve seen it in several shelter magazines. Don’t care, don’t like it. Love the metal military style chest and the turquoise bowl on top. Need to change the chairs - now.

I thought the mirrors were very cool. Not so crazy about the wood table - but the chairs are great as well.

Kastiel - so many amazing things it’s worth the trip.

  1. Sorry, but you can’t take the credit for making up ginourmous :-)

I’ve always used the word, and I found this on the Web: “ginormous” has actually been around for a remarkably long time. According to the etymologist Eric Partridge, it first appeared in Britain as Royal Air Force and Royal Navy slang during World War II, thereafter spreading into general population as youth slang.

  2. Walla, I stand corrected. :)

  3. yikes! those fuschia chairs give me a headache! and the poufs, though whimsical, look like sesame street refugees :-). but i do like the wrought iron chairs with the wood dining table, i like that unexpected look. the store reminds me of something a friend said while we were laughing at horredous bridal gowns in a magazine… in something this big, there has to be a range to appeal to all tastes. and yes, i agree the black couch *is* over the top!
