Innovative lighting: Ayala Serfaty

by Patti Boker Elkon on November 20, 2008

Aqua Creations, the brain child of Israeli designer Ayala Serfaty is a unique combination of beauty, functionality and art.  Her work, which is heavily inspired by organic forms found in nature and undersea themes; is reflective of well known glass artist Dale Chihuly

Ayala Serfaty’s silk collection is one of her most marketable lines, here she shapes the fabric to create these sculptural floor lamps.

Her work is featured in many local establishments.  This one is in Eilat at the “Red Sea Star” restaurant.

The latest collection takes her work in a fresh, new direction.  Switching from color to white makes an impact on the lighting featured here.  She uses a material coated with some sort of resin that is very interesting, when I visited the show they had a small example of this that you could handle.

If you are interested in viewing her work, there is a show which just opened on November 13th at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art  that features one large floor installation from the Soma collection shown above.

I was in awe when I saw these lamps. To say they were beautiful would not do them justice.
