Old Train Station, Tel Aviv-Yafo
This year Tel Aviv-Yaffo is celebrating it’s 100th year centennial. Many sites that were once old and decrepit are now polished up and ready for the celebration. The “Fresh Paint Contemporary Art Fair” is one of the many events enjoying this status. This show, housed in the old Tel Aviv-Yafo train station is stuffed with art from prominent local galleries, and a bit over-stuffed to my liking.
A few nice things can be found here and there throughout the show, but most of the art is commercial and the spaces are jam packed; bringing on the condition of ”visual overwhelm”.
In all the mess there were a few interesting pieces like these paper mache coin purses.

This section of the exhibit was neat with all of these tiny white chairs on display in one of the main rooms in the old station. I enjoyed looking at the space much more than the art.
I did find something that I absolutely loved, these old serving units that were in the cafe area. I am not sure if they were from the old train station, but I thought they were one of the most authentic things at the show.
This green side cabinet was a favorite.
If you are a die hard art fan then this show is for you. If you are like me and prefer more carefully curated shows, then I say skip it and visit the old station when the crowds are gone after March 21st.

i love the renovated old station. it has such a “colonial” feel (natch!) i feel like i’m in bermuda or the bahamas!
I just heard on the radio that 35,000 people (!!!) attended Fresh Paint 2, up from 14,000 people at Fresh Paint 1. This would explain the crowds.

Yes, the station is wonderful. I just heard today that the city plans to do more events and renovate it even further in the coming months / years.
It is definately a nice place to hang out, you can even see the sea from there…what’s bette than that!
