Smells like Team Spirit

by Jessica Korman on October 31, 2009

in kitsch

pink_yankees_bedroomIt’s that time of year again! No, not Halloween (though to be sure, I do have my costume ready for tomorrow night), but time for that Fall Classic; the World Series.  And being in New York, I’m in town to root on my favorite team! Now, I’m not going to go as far as too get any of this paraphernalia, “tchochkes,” if you will. A comfy hoodie is all I really need to show off my team colors. But, should your colors’ run thicker through your veins, here are some ideas as to how to infuse your loyalty into your home decor. Not a Yankees fan? Boo! Hiss! Just kidding, check for your favorite team at shop.mlb.com.

Aïssa Logerot of Paris has created an interesting table which reacts to the volume and weight placed upon it. Besides this unique feature, I think it is quite beautiful. I like the simple lines and the random pattern the wooden pieces create on the surface.

Reporting from the Lower East Side, New York (my hometown)! I’ll be in the states for about a month, though today’s post has nothing to do with the Lower East Side, New York or even the United States.

Shavings-by-Yoav-Avinoam-1 For his graduation project from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israeli industrial designer Yoav Avinoam chose to integrate furniture design with how we handle wasted material by using sawdust shavings to create each piece. The remarkable result of this effort is his ‘Shavings’ collection. Click here.

john_beck_chalkboard_pendant_lamp

Came across this lamp and I think it is so much fun. Perfect for a kitchen or kid’s room, it’ll allow you to write that night’s menu, maybe write a poem or even play Hangman!

I just came across this adorable lantern. Perhaps because of today’s date (September 11 as I write this), I’ve become a little nostalgic for my hometown.

Windows of Jaffa

jaffa_window_07

I took a mini-vacation this week with my best friend, Shana, who is visiting from New York. We spent our time there on the beach and exploring Tel Aviv. As usual, my appendage, a Nikon D80, came with me. My upcoming posts may be products of that trip. The photos in this post were taken in the Old Jaffa, just South of Tel Aviv.

Place-for-Trace-Merchant-No.-4-1

No architect is ever found without his or her “trace,” rolls of transparent paper on which to sketch, mark up and revise plans. (Except in Israel, where one has yet to find it anywhere)
